Prague Attractions – Which Ones Are Really Must-See?
Considered a home to about 1.9 million residents, Prague and Prague attractions are a gem waiting to be explored by the eager tourist. Being not only the capital, but the largest city in the Czech Republic, Prague is filled with rich history and a unique culture. Prague is located on the banks of the River Vltava. With its many bridges for those travelling on foot, Prague has a romantic and mysterious energy. You may find yourself transported to a time long ago as you gaze at the peaceful and calm river running below you. The city of Prague has an extensive history, dating back to 4000 BC when the German and Celtic tribes made parts of Prague their home. Later on the Slavs came to Prague and put down roots of what was to become the modern Prague we know today. Prague attractions are bountiful; making sure you can never get bored in this dazzling city and having something of interest to offer to all.
The city is filled with museums, such as the Mozart Museum, the National Museum, and the only Mucha Museum in the world. Alfons Maria Mucha was a Czech painter, born in 1860, famous for his work, one of which is The Slav Epic. The Slav Epic consists of twenty paintings showing the struggle and history of the Slav People. The talented Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart often found solace in Prague. Visiting his friends, who were musicians as well, he would spend the summer months working on his music and is said to have created the "Bella Mia Fiamma, Addio" piece while visiting, which he then dedicated to his cherished friends. The estate which Mozart visited has survived to be intact and serves as the Mozart Museum. Visitors can have an intimate glimpse of where this gifted and extraordinary soul drew his inspiration from.
Prague attractions include river cruises during which you can enjoy a romantic dinner while taking in the sights of the city. The cruises are available all year around and leave from every port. Reservations may also be made to be picked up from the hotel and transported directly to the port. All that is left for you to do is to climb aboard and enjoy.
Among the most famous Prague attractions are the Old Town and Prague Castle. True to its name, the Old Town is the oldest part of Prague. It grew significantly in the 13th century and eventually became the headquarters of the Czech Republic Government. Today, the Old Town offers visitors numerous attractions such as the Municipal House, the Museum of Decorative Arts and the opportunity to see the Astronomical Clock. The birth of the Astronomical Clock began in 1410 when a clockmaker, Mikulas, created the mechanical clock and dial. Over the next 100 years, the clock would undergo additions and changes until becoming the stunning clock we know today. Prague Castle dates back to the 9th century and was founded by Prince Borivoj. The castle is an important part of Czech history and is one of the most beloved places in the country. It is considered to be the largest castle in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The castle itself is about 70,000 m2 and consists of numerous palaces, cathedrals and gothic style buildings.

The Interesting and Expressive Vincent Van Gogh – Dutch post impressionist
His father was a minister and three of his uncles were art dealers, two vocations that were to pull Vincent in different directions at various times in his life. He is known as a famous Dutch post-impressionist. There are a couple of interesting things about this artist that I find interesting. He became more famous after he died. This is sad, don't you agree?
I have found that he only sold one painting during his lifetime. This painting was "The Red Vineyard" to an impressionist painter named Anna Boch. Another fact about him is he fell in love with a lady and gave her his ear as payment as he had no money. I cannot find if she really took his ear or what she did with it. It has been written that he had bipolar depression combined with other ailments. Sadly, he committed suicide when he was 37 years old, which is indeed sad and a great lost. His Post-Impressionist paintings laid the groundwork for Expressionism, influenced the Fauves and greatly affected 20th century art. He created more than 2,000 works, including 900 paintings, three of which make up the world's ten most expensive pieces of art. In letters, Vincent has described his youth as "gloomy, cold and barren," and he left school at 15. With the help of his uncle, he was offered a job with the art dealer Goupil & Cie, and in 1873 was sent to London and from there to Paris. After complaining repeatedly about the commoditization of art, his job with the art dealership was terminated and Van Gogh returned to England to work as a teacher and minister's assistant.
In 1879, after failing a course at a Protestant missionary school near Brussels, Van Gogh began a mission in the poor mining district of Borinage in Belgium. Choosing to live in the same poverty-stricken conditions as the local population, he was dismissed for "undermining the dignity of the priesthood" and returned home. His behavior over the following months led his father to enquire about having Van Gogh committed to an asylum. Aged 27, Van Gogh eventually took up the suggestion of his brother Theo, now a successful art dealer, to focus on painting. In 1880, he moved to Brussels and studied at the Royal Academy of Art. Van Gogh's first major work, The Potato Eaters, was painted in 1885 shortly after his father's death.
Like many of his early works, the painting used sombre colors, especially dark brown, a preference which would make his paintings difficult to sell; buyers' tastes were now influenced by the bright tones used by the Impressionists. His palette however, began to change after he moved to Antwerp in 1885. He studied color theory and began using carmine, cobalt and emerald green. But it was while living in Paris from 1886 to 1888, where he met Emile Bernard and Toulouse-Lautrec and came into close contact with Impressionist art, that Van Gogh's art really began to develop. He experimented with Pointillism and painted in the sunflower-rich region of Arles with the artist Gauguin. By late 1888 his behavior was becoming difficult however, and fearing that Gauguin was going to abandon him, he stalked the painter with a razor before cutting off his earlobe and giving it to a local prostitute, telling her to "keep this object carefully." The following year, after suffering from hallucinations and believing that he was being poisoned, Van Gogh was placed in the mental hospital of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole near Arles. By now, Van Gogh's work was beginning to be recognized. The critic Albert Aurier called him a "genius," and Monet declared that his work was the best in a major avant-garde Brussels art show. The beginnings of success did nothing to help Van Gogh's depression though, nor did the intervention of the physician Dr. Paul Gachet. On July 27, 1890, he walked into a field, shot himself in the chest with a revolver and died two days later. Although there has been much speculation about the nature of Van Gogh's mental illness, he is now recognized as one of the world's greatest artists and a bridge between 19th century Impressionism and 20th century art.
I like painting the swirls and wavy lines of his innovative expressive style. His collections includes a few still life's and self portraits, as well as some very popular images including Self Portrait, Still Life with Yellow Straw Hat, Potato Eaters, Houses Seen from the Back, Vase with Twelve Sunflowers, Red Vineyards near Arles, Café Terrace at Night, The Starry Night, Portrait of Dr. Gachet, Still Life with Absinthe, White House at Night, Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers, Bedroom in Arles (3rd Version) The Night Café, The Yellow House, and Irises.

Spanish Painter Rosario Barquin Publishes her Web Site
At the original site : www.rosariobarquin.com, we can see, not only the painter's work, but also we can get to know about art news, events and very interesting propositions.
Rosario Barquin, Spanish, but born in Mexico, has a Bachelor's Degree in American Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid, that is why her interest for the knowledge of human society is deeply present in her work.
She has also a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Maryland, that is why she has been able to design her site that she keeps and continuously updates.
Rosario Barquin is a Painter with a great sense of humour…. The colours are bright but at the same time they are soft, worked and combined with mastery. Open spaces, floating, with some fantasy but always hooked to reality.
Her pictures talk about a lively and critical look at the near and global worlds that surround her. (" Steady hand in a velvet glove "?).
It catches ones attention to notice how she manages to translate, at the same time, a particular and a general, a delicate and a sharp comment. Over all I like the pictures in which characters appear, because since they are painted in a very personal way they are acidic and enjoyable.
She has told us that the source of her inspiration are the people, the people that she sees on the street, around her house, people close by that she observes with tenderness and humour.
Rosario Barquin navigates between Surrealism and Abstraction. She switches from acrylics, for bigger formats, to light watercolours for more subtle and spontaneous results. But without disregard to something that she deeply enjoys: digital design.
Last month she made a funny raffle between the twenty first people that wrote her telling her which picture of her site they loved most. She raffled three drawings. She told us that this experience has been very interesting that she really enjoyed knowing which were the most popular pictures of her site, and She is thinking about repeating the experience one more time.
If you want to enjoy her work: www.rosariobarquin.com
