Traditional Canvas Artists: A Slice of Real Art
Traditional canvas art is considered to be the only form of real art by many of the more conservative experts that are out there today. Although traditional art is starting to take a major back seat to modern canvas artists, with a particular emphasis on digital art forms like 2D and 3D graphic arts, that is not to say that it is any less available or has any less of a following. In fact, it is more popular than ever despite the fact that the new technology has hit the media more and more often in recent months. There are still plenty of traditional canvas artists around that you can invest in by purchasing one or more of their works. However, you have to know what categories to find them in first and this article is a quick introduction to the types of traditional canvas artist that comes under this particular heading. Some may surprise you but all are well worth looking into.
Oil and watercolour canvas artists are the obvious traditional canvas artists because we associate traditional art with the watercolours and oil paints of previous centuries. Despite the fact that there have been numerous modern movements in the years since, which has of course suggested that the art world has moved on, that is not to say that canvas artists are not painting with these materials these days. Of course they are! Watercolour paintings by talented artists are absolutely gorgeous and offer a distinct measure of beauty to any bare wall. Oil paintings are of course a little more heavy but rich in detail and can provide fantastic talking points for your home or office. However, you may want to note that oil and watercolour canvas artists do not necessarily paint the dark images that we are used to from past greats.
Landscape canvas artists are also amongst the most popular traditional canvas artists out there. They may also paint with oils and with watercolours but they do tend to specialise in various landscapes from a range of perspectives. As such, these artists have become well known for this particular facet of their work or at least their focus on the natural. Most of these images tend to be of the straightforward variety so there are no hidden messages, no subjective shapes that require interpretation and absolutely nothing cryptic at all. Instead, the canvas artists for this particular traditional category focus on and deliver beauty. The vibrancy is still there but without the need for bright colours. It comes from nature. Traditional Canvas Art provides a very natural appeal to any wall.
Folk canvas artists are also happily included under the umbrella of traditional canvas artists. They offer a completely different perspective of the world to other traditional artists and tend to use unique techniques that immediately identify the art as of folk origin. Folk art is historically indigenous and therefore demonstrates a lower class culture, but one that has a great degree of life nevertheless. It is highly decorative, colourful and full of life. There are all types of folk canvas artists out there though because they can come from anywhere in the world. As such, each fold canvas artist produces art that reflects his or her specific heritage and culture. Some of the pieces are the most beautiful you will ever see and are well worth investing in.
Speaking of specific cultures, heritage and tradition, ethnic canvas artists are also considered to be traditional canvas artists because they also draw on their heritage and their national or tribal roots to convey their own personal identities and cultures. There are numerous ethnic canvas artists out there. The most popular are African canvas artists but you will also find indigenous artists, Asian artists, Caribbean artists and other such groups of artists out there. All of them produce incredible traditional art that draws on the way in which they were raised, the stories that have been passed down and the history that their nations, or indeed continents, have experienced.
As you can see, there are various types of canvas artists still out there. All of those that produce art under the traditional art umbrella can offer something that very few other artists can. They can offer a sample of art that is steeped in history but has a modern feel to it. Modern artists lack the universal appeal that traditional canvas artists still have and for that reason the latter tends to be more popular. As such, you can readily find an artist that you like out there and invest in his or her future and your art collection at the same time. Shop today and find original pieces of Traditional Canvas Art at CanvasPaintings.com.

Masterpieces of Modern Soul $15.98 Outsiders of the U.K. soul collecting scene might expect a CD with a title as generic as Masterpieces of Modern Soul to have songs by the likes of the Temptations or Al Green, or maybe Anita Baker and the like if it's much more "modern." But no, we're talking the cliquish British soul fiend culture here, where modern soul, according to the liner notes, is evidently a quite distinct animal from Northern soul. Modern soul, y'see, focuses on the smoother sounds of '70s soul, as opposed to Northern soul, which favors the more dance-oriented soul tunes of the '60s. It's all a bit befuddlingly hair-splitting for more general (or all American) listeners, who like soul music depending on how they like it, not what decade it's from. If you like '70s soul enough to pick up collections of obscurities from the genre, though, you could do worse than this two-dozen-strong anthology of tracks. Some of these singers were marginally popular, like Millie Jackson, Ted Taylor, Vernon Garrett, Denise LaSalle, Ronnie Walker, and Garland Green, but the majority of them aren't going to be known to any listeners except the most dedicated specialists. The tone is more pleasantly grooving than compulsively memorable, to be honest. But most of these are decent enough slices of '70s soul, often strongly reflecting trendy early-'70s sweet soul sounds from Philadelphia, though a few tracks postdate the mid-'70s, with one hailing from as late as 2002. There are some nice cuts that move away from that vibe, though, like Debra Johnson's previously unissued "To Get Love You've Got to Bring Love," which recalls Betty Everett's Vee Jay sides, though perhaps with more contemporary production; Sam Nesbit's gritty "Chase Those Clouds Away," which takes some cues from Young-Holt Unlimited's "Soulful Strut"; and Idris Muhammad's "I'm a Believer," which with its strong jazz-gospel flavor is the most distinctive track on the disc. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi |

Masterpieces of Classic Greek Drama $73 Aeschylus' Oresteia, Sophocles' Oedipus plays, Euripides' Medea and Bacchae, and Aristophanes' Birds and Lysistrata are discussed in this lively and scholarly volume. The author's experience teaching these plays to gifted high school students makes this volume particularly useful. The drama festivals, the adaptations of myth, the relevance of Aristotelian criteria, and the political and cultural background of each play are described fully, and the nature of tragedy and comedy, plot construction, stagecraft, theme, character, imagery and individual odes and speeches are analyzed in depth. The 5th century BC witnessed the flourishing of Athenian culture and was one of the most influential periods in history. The achievements of the Greeks at that time forever shaped our political and legal institutions and provided the foundation for Western civilization. At the same time, the world of the Greeks is distant and exotic to contemporary students. The values and beliefs of the Greeks are best represented in the plays that were crafted at that time, and these works continue to be widely read and studied. This book is a valuable introduction to ancient Greek drama. Designed for high school students, undergraduates, and their teachers, this work describes the origins and physical aspects of ancient Greek theatre, discusses Aristotle's Poetics, and analyzes, in ten separate chapters, ten frequently studied Greek plays: Aeschylus' Oresteia, Sophocles' Antigone, Oedipus Rex and Oedipus at Colonus, Euripides' Medea and Bacchae and Aristophanes' Birds and Lysistrata. For each there is cultural, political and mythological background, plot synopsis, and analysis of overall structure and important scenes, speeches and odes. The Aristophanes chapters explore comic method and all chapters discuss theme and stagecraft in depth. |

Masterpieces of Mexican Polyphony $9.58 The focus in the new century when it comes to the music of colonial Mexico has been its lively secular traditions, but it was the substantial religious works discovered in the archives of the country's great cathedrals that were discovered first. This 1989 recording, later reissued in Hyperion's budget Helios line, brought many listeners to the sacred cathedral repertory. There are good recordings of some of this music by smaller groups, such as the Sixteen, but there's a strong case to be made for a version with a sizable choir of men and boys, operating in a rich, complex acoustic, and that's exactly what you get here. Although much of the music here dates from the seventeenth century, it is really of the Renaissance in style; the later pieces by Francisco López Capillas and Antonio de Salazar are simpler than the big double-choir works of Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, and there is some use of a small continuo of dulcian, harp, and organ, but the Italianate Baroque style did not appear in Mexico until the eighteenth century. The chief point of reference is the dark Counter Reformation style of Victoria, expertly handled by his near contemporary Hernando Franco in the first and earliest work on the program, a Salve Regina. The works by Padilla, most of them for double choir and intended for the great cathedral of Puebla, are the most imposing, and the superbly clear performances here are matched by Hyperion's trademark engineering of choral music. If you're hooked by this music you may wish to investigate some more characteristically Spanish recordings of it, but this remains a good place to start with a repertory that was all but unknown except to specialists a generation ago. ~ James Manheim, Rovi Performers: Choir of Westminster Abbey - Choir, Chorus |

Chinese Masterpieces of the Pipa and Quin $11.98 U.K.-based Chinese musician Cheng Yu has created a series of albums over the past few years, largely built around her pipa skills, but also including the results of her work with the historic, but only reconstructed (by Cheng herself) five-string qin. Here, there are some performances with both of her instruments. The album opens with an excellent old (composed in 1425) piece of qin music evocative of "flowing water" that moves from gentle burbling via plucks on to massive turbulence via metal-like strumming. The pipa makes an appearance with the following piece with a bit more tempo but maybe less energy. The qin returns for a more contemplative piece of program music in combination with the xiao flute, courtesy of Cheng's old teacher Li Xiangting. More pipa music forms the core of the album from this point, with three regional pieces from the Southern (and Southwestern) parts of China. These pieces manage to evoke anticipation, excitement, joy, and enchantment on the strength of the old compositions. The civil style of pipa composition is additionally laid out beautifully with "Flute and Drum at Sunset," mixing the usually frenetic nature of the pipa (short, staccato notes) with a slower-paced composition and the extended tones of the xiao. This is followed by the second piece from the classic Shenqi Mipu scores (the first being "Flowing Water"), a more contemplative work built around variations on a theme of nobility. The album ends on the martial style of pipa playing, diametrically opposite the civil style, with dramatic rushes of the strings, violent and frenetic passages, and a generally overpowerful approach. This is also the type of music that the pipa is perhaps best known for in the West (from the various renditions of "Hero's Defeat," "Ambushed on Ten Sides," etc). Cheng's playing on the pipa isn't as revolutionary, as exciting as some of the other contemporary players on the scene (Wu Man, for example), but her additional qin skills more than make up for that. This album is a great addition to the collection of any fan of Chinese classical. ~ Adam Greenberg, Rovi Performers: Ci-Heng Wang - Xiao; Li Xiangting - Xiao, Flute; Xiangting Li - Xiao; Cheng Yu - Pipa, Zither; Wang Ciheng - Flute |

Emergence of Contemporary Furniture
The origin of contemporary furniture came a long way. Historically, the designs came from way back the Neolithic Period. The method is what they call as live edge design. In this process, the carpenters or designers, make use of exotic wood pieces to be able to create a masterpiece beyond the usual style. They incorporate the original texture, design, and style of the wood to the entire piece that they will be making. Like for instance, ordinary carpenters, would reject wood with holes and indistinct edge pattern but for most astute designers of today, they would make use of these holes to create furniture that can be both elegant and stylish. This is the reason why contemporary furniture became popular with the arrival of modern era. It is very innovative at the same time adapted from historical models of the ancient era. You may find pieces that ages 300 years old but still look very stylish and chic.
Please visit http://www.zimmer-rattan.com/ for ordering Rattan Furniture
There are basic considerations in order to design furniture, but appearance has always been considered as vital as the function of the piece itself. Most of the time, there is a strong tendency to correlate or complement the architectural style of the house with the right contemporary furniture.
Architects or designers have different theme in creating their own masterpieces. You may find a furnishing with legs designed as columns; while other use animal forms or famous facial engravings to put emphasis on elegance and style. Every country has its own design of furniture and to reflect the culture and society within it. The design changes from one era to another but every period considers one dominant style.
There are common types of furnishings and these are chairs, tables, chests, and beds. The style ranges from simple to elaborate but the pieces are usually intricately made to create such a good impression to the one looking at it.
Please visit http://www.zimmer-rattan.com/ for ordering Rattan Furniture
In choosing for any complementary furniture, you have to be very careful. You need to take into consideration the interior architecture of your house or room before you decide to choose any pieces to be placed within it. Quality is also very important especially if you want these furnishings to last a longer period of time. Since the materials used are usually wood or in combination with other materials, then you have to be very specific with the type of wood because not all can comply with high standards.
You won't have any difficulty when it comes to selection because a new technology has been designed that will allow you to gain access to the widest selection of designs of contemporary furniture without even moving an inch from where you are now. You will just need a computer and internet connection to make this possible. There are already available online stores that offer same services with any land-based establishments but this time you can make the purchase via online transaction.
