Reverse Glass Painting - The Only Tools You'll Need For Reverse Glass Painting
The tools needed for painting in reverse on glass are really very simple and limited. The initial cost of the materials can be shaved down to a minimum if you prefer to start out slow. I'll make a list of things you'll need, and I would be willing to guess that you already have at least half, if not most of them somewhere around the house.
1) A small to medium table to work on. It can be as simple as 2 saw horses with short pine planks over the top.
2) A pane of glass with a frame that fits. If you don't mind starting with small paintings, The local dollar store should have 8" x 10" frames.
3) A large brush, 1" to 3" wide.
4) Maybe 2 small round brushes, a size 0 and a size 2
5) manicure sticks, tooth picks, or wooden barbeque skewers
6) Q-Tips
7) A flat pallet knife for mixing paints, (A putty knife would do in a pinch)
Clean styrofoam plates or trays, The plastic lids to coffee cans are great for this, too.
9) masking tape
10) Razor blade or a utility knife
11) Paint. It does not matter whether the paint is water based, acrylic, or oil paint. It only needs
to adhere to the glass, and any of these will.
12) Paint thinner, it's very inexpensive, and you shouldn't even need a full quart for one painting.
13) A few small clean rags.
Now when you think about it, this is really not a lot of investment. Beyond this small list of coarse, a subject for the painting is needed, but that is where your imagination is going to kick in. This is where the fun starts! After you do a few paintings, you're naturally going to want to upgrade your tools. If the one gallon cans of left over house paint made a big mess, you may decide to go purchase the small tubes of paint, available in art supply stores. I paint with oils, so I also need varnish to thin my paints with. You may need more brushes if you're going to continue reverse glass painting. From my own experience of 8 years of reverse glass painting, I can safely say that with time, they do get better. So, I wish you the best of luck! Ready, set, start painting!

An abused Albuquerque wife with low self-esteem, Benita has been chosen to act as the sole liaison between the human race and the Pistach, who have offered their human hosts a spectacular opportunity for knowledge and enrichment. But ultimately Benita will be called upon to do much more than deliver messages -- and may, in fact, be responsible for saving the Earth. Because the Pistach are not the only space-faring species currently making their presence known on her unsuspecting planet. And the others are not so benevolent. |

Libyan Saharan Prehistoric Art: Cave Drawings, Paintings & Rock Engravings of The Great Sahara Desert:
Archaeologists, egyptologists and anthropologists as well as lovers of the Sahara's pre-historic art must now have their eyes set on Libya, as full access to its unique prehistoric art and primeval past is only a few hours away from Europe's capitals. Dazzling and vivid mages of its early pastoralists, tribal shamans and early artists can be grasped directly off the rocks of the Sahara. Breathtaking depictions that not only withstood time but also have brought time to a stand-still; to a degree where these preserved treasures are believed by the Tuareg to be lessons from their ancestors and as such are true history of the Great Sahara Desert.
Although much of the Sahara's prehistoric art was attributed to Lhote's travels in late 1950s, the engravings of North Africa were first made know to Europeans by a group of French Army officers travelling in southern Oran (in Algeria) in 1847. When the explorer Heinrich Barth crossed the Sahara from Tripoli to Timbuktu, in 1850, he found similar engravings of elephants, lions, antelopes, bovids, ostriches, gazelles and humans in the Fezzan area. In 1954 an Italian expedition (which included Paolo Grraziose, Vergara-Caffarelli and Dr Paradisi) discovered a large collection of animal engravings and female figures in rock shelters in Wadi el Kel, about 300 miles south of Tripoli. Apparently, the same engravings were reported in 1874 by the explorer Rohlfs. In some of the animal carvings, the horns of the oxen join together to form a solar disk: the emblem of the Libyan Sun-Goddess. After the first war the geological prophet who foretold the Sahara's riches of natural oil, Conrad Kilian, discovered frescoes of a giraffe hunt in 1928. A few years later, chariots drawn by horses were also discovered. Then came Lieutenant Brenans the governor of Tassili who discovered the Tassili frescoes in 1938. According to some sources, Henri Lhote knew Brenans well and after his death carried on the work he had started, and he began to catalogue the gallery between the years 1956 and 1957.
Libya's Tripoli's Jamahiriya Museum houses a wonderful collection of prehistoric artifacts and treasures from the Sahara and there is no doubt that the museum deserves a visit. But serious explorers of ancient civilizations will benefit greatly from the museums of the Sahara herself - a place well-known to the Berber Nasamons of ancient Libya, from whom Herodotus appears to have had hurriedly derived his descriptions of this enigmatic interior of Libya. The Sahara is the home of the world's largest collection of prehistoric cave art: some 100,000 sites; each is a unique gallery of prehistoric drawings, paintings and engravings, telling different stories about life in the past. One of the prehistoric paintings discovered by Henri Lhote, that of a human figure, about 18 feet tall, holds the record of being the largest prehistoric painting in the world.

Surviving Picasso $22.91 Canvas, color, metal, ceramics. The century's leading artist commanded them all. But what about the legendary Pablo Picasso's other great passion? Was romance also dominated by his genius? Academy Award® winner* Anthony Hopkins gives a full-throttle performance as the acclaimed artist in this masterful movie told from the viewpoint of Picasso's longtime mistress (Natascha McElhone in a luminous film debut) and mother of his children Claude and Paloma. Director James Ivory, producer Ismail Merchant and writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala reteam with Hopkins for the first time since The Remains of the Day in this lusty, sweeping saga. Joined by producer David L. Wolper (Roots), they draw from a vivid filmmaking palette to create an intimate, insightful tale of genius, beauty and obsession. ** PLEASE NOTE: This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. A Life Of Picasso Volume III $9.99 Drawing on exhaustive research from interviews and unpublished archival material, John Richardson has produced the long-awaited third volume of the definitive biography, full of original, groundbreaking new insights into Picasso?s life and work. His lively and incisive analysis of the work meshes seamlessly with the rich and detailed narrative of this complex and sensual life. The Triumphant Years reveals Picasso at the height of his powers, producing not only the costumes and sets for such Diaghilev Ballets Russes productions as Parade and Tricorne but some of his most important sculpture and paintings. These are tumultuous years, Picasso torn between marital respectability with Olga, the Russian ballerina who was his first wife, and the erotic passion of his mistress, Marie-Therese. Rome and Naples would inspire the classicism in Picasso?s work of the early twenties and Richardson reveals how the mercurial, witty Cocteau introduced him to the aristocratic and artistic world of Paris, including the de Noailles art patrons who backed the surrealist films of Bu uel and Dali. Picasso was amused by Tristan Tzara and the Dadaists but resisted the advances of Andr Breton and the Surrealists. Sara and Gerald Murphy, whom he met in the south of France, would introduce him to Hemingway and Fitzgerald. With The Triumphant Years , Richardson has written a masterful and compelling biography full of valuable and intriguing research about the most important artist of the twentieth century. |

Stealing Picasso $31.42 Harry Broome dreams of being a famous painter. And when a sophisticated French beauty buys all the paintings at his first exhibition, he knows he's on his way. But in the art world nothing is as it seems. Before long, to pay his debts and save his reputation, he is trapped in a plot to steal Picasso's Weeping Woman from the National Gallery of Victoria. She is the gallery's greatest acquisition, and when she goes missing the city's many treasure hunters come out to find her: a corrupt tycoon who knew Picasso, a gay escort obsessed with Michael Jackson, a bent barrister, a gang of bikies, a hit man, the gallery director, the Minister for Police. The Weeping Woman is priceless and life is cheap. Stretching from pre-war France to contemporary Australia, with a captivating cast of eccentric characters and a superbly engaging plot, Stealing Picasso tells of an art theft - which is based on a true story - and a forgery and their extraordinary repercussions. |

Mystery of Picasso $25.46 Like a matador confronting a bull, the artist approaches his easel. As he wields his brush, the painting dances into being before our eyes. Pablo Picasso, the most influential artist of the 20th century, is making art, and famous French director Henri-Georges Clouzot (Diabolique, The Wages of Fear) is making a movie. This entirely new kind of art documentary captures the moment and the mystery of creativity; for the film, the master created 20 artworks, ranging from playful black-and-white sketches to widescreen color paintings. Using inks that bled through the paper, Picasso rapidly created fanciful drawings that Clouzot was able to film from the reverse side, capturing their creation in real time. When the artist decided to paint in oils, the filmmaker switched to color film and employed the magic of stop-motion animation. By contract, almost all of these paintings were destroyed when the film was completed. Unavailable for more than a decade, "The Mystery of Picasso" is exhilarating, mesmerizing, and unforgettable; it is simply one of the greatest documentaries on art ever made. The French government agrees; in 1984 it declared the film a national treasure. |

Picasso's painting: Three musicians?
Can anyone tell me about his painting? Can somebody please describe the painting to me and how it is different from all his other paintings?
Three Musicians is the title of two similar collage and oil paintings by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. They were both completed in 1921 in Fontainebleau near Paris, France, and exemplify the Synthetic Cubist style.
Synthetic cubism is characterized by the introduction of different textures, surfaces, collage elements, papier collé and a large variety of merged subject matter. Picasso's paintings/collages like three musicians were the beginning of collage materials being introduced as an important ingredient of fine art work. The patterned flatness of the work is derived from cut–and–pasted paper, and stands in stark contrast to the sculptural monumentally of Picasso's Three Women at the Spring, also painted in the summer of 1921.
Whereas the earlier Analytic Cubism was an analysis of the subjects (pulling them apart into planes), The Synthetic Cubism of three musicians is more of a pushing of several objects together. Less pure than Analytic Cubism, Synthetic Cubism has fewer planar shifts (or schematism), and less shading, creating flatter space.
One version of Three Musicians is currently owned by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City; the other is found in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Each painting features a Harlequin, a Pierrot, and a monk, who are generally believed to represent Picasso, Guillaume Apollinaire, and Max Jacob, respectively. Apollinaire and Jacob, both poets, had been close friends of Picasso during the 1910s. However, Apollinaire died of the Spanish flu in 1918, while Jacob decided to enter a monastery in 1921.
