Portraits of the Renaissance $500 Portraits of the Renaissance About the Book Memling, Van Eyck, Antonello da Messina, Raphael, Holbein, Titian, Leonardo . . . these are the greatest names of the Renaissance which symbolize the ultimate in artistic achievement. Now their work is reproduced in this spectacular, luxury volume printed on cotton paper and exquisitely presented in a brown and turquoise linen case. Whether Italian, Flemish, or German, all were masters of the portrait, a style that was popular and much appreciated during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Sharply focused and featuring meticulously researched illustrations, this beautiful book is the first of its kind to shed light on some of the most familiar images in art history. On Images $39.95 Whether it was the demands of life, leisure, or a combination of both that forced our hands, we have developed a myriad of artefacts---maps, notes, descriptions, diagrams, flow-charts, photographs, paintings, and prints---that stand for other things. Most agree that images and their close relatives are special because, in some sense, they look like what they are about. This simple claim is the starting point for most philosophical investigations into the nature of depiction. On Images argues that this starting point is fundamentally misguided. Whether a representation is an image depends not on how it is perceived but on how it relates to others within a system. This kind of approach, first championed by Nelson Goodman in his Languages of Art, has not found many supporters, in part because of weaknesses with Goodman's account. On Images shows that a properly crafted structural account of pictures has many advantages over the perceptualaccounts that dominate the literature on this topic. In particular, it explains the close relationship between pictures, diagrams, graphs and other kinds of non-linguistic representation. It undermines the claim that pictures are essentially visual by showing that audio recordings, tactile line drawings, and other non-visualrepresentations are pictorial. Also, by avoiding explaining images in terms of how we perceive them, this account sheds new light on why pictures seem so perceptually special in the first place. This discussion of picture perception recasts some old debates on the topic, suggests further lines of philosophical and empirical research, and ultimately leads to a new perspective on pictorial realism. |

Renaissance $16.99 In the labyrinthine streets of 21st century Paris, where every move is monitored and ever action recorded, a mysterious kidnapping sets into motion a catastrophic series of events that could ultimately prove the downfall of civilization. The year is 2054, and the Avalon Corporation has securely woven its way into every aspect of modern living by making youth and beauty the most valued commodity around. Troubles arises in the City of Lights when a high-profile scientist named Ilona (voice of Romola Garai) is kidnapped, and policeman Barthélémy Karas (voice of Daniel Craig) is assigned the task of solving the case. As his investigation leads Karas down a menacing path where death lurks around every bend, he soon discovers that events that took place in 2006 have cast a dark shadow over the future of humankind. A film that mixes Blade Runner aesthetics with stark, Sin City-style visuals, Renaissance was filmed using motion-capture animation and features extravagant production design by Alfred Frazzani (Immortel Ad Vitam). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Guide other shiny expanses, and false (but pretty) facades are created to confuse and imprison characters. This constant emphasis on empty, backwards images supports Volckman's seeming disgust with society's preoccupation with youthful beauty (and the multibillion-dollar cosmetic industries that keep us hooked), although his own film is relentlessly gorgeous. |

Was romance also dominated by his genius? Academy Award® winner* Anthony Hopkins gives a full-throttle performance as the acclaimed artist in this masterful movie told from the viewpoint of Picasso's longtime mistress (Natascha McElhone in a luminous film debut) and mother of his children Claude and Paloma. Director James Ivory, producer Ismail Merchant and writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala reteam with Hopkins for the first time since The Remains of the Day in this lusty, sweeping saga. Stealing Picasso $31.42 Harry Broome dreams of being a famous painter. And when a sophisticated French beauty buys all the paintings at his first exhibition, he knows he's on his way. But in the art world nothing is as it seems. Before long, to pay his debts and save his reputation, he is trapped in a plot to steal Picasso's Weeping Woman from the National Gallery of Victoria. She is the gallery's greatest acquisition, and when she goes missing the city's many treasure hunters come out to find her: a corrupt tycoon who knew Picasso, a gay escort obsessed with Michael Jackson, a bent barrister, a gang of bikies, a hit man, the gallery director, the Minister for Police. The Weeping Woman is priceless and life is cheap. Stretching from pre-war France to contemporary Australia, with a captivating cast of eccentric characters and a superbly engaging plot, Stealing Picasso tells of an art theft - which is based on a true story - and a forgery and their extraordinary repercussions. |

Mystery of Picasso $25.46 Like a matador confronting a bull, the artist approaches his easel. As he wields his brush, the painting dances into being before our eyes. Pablo Picasso, the most influential artist of the 20th century, is making art, and famous French director Henri-Georges Clouzot (Diabolique, The Wages of Fear) is making a movie. This entirely new kind of art documentary captures the moment and the mystery of creativity; for the film, the master created 20 artworks, ranging from playful black-and-white sketches to widescreen color paintings. Using inks that bled through the paper, Picasso rapidly created fanciful drawings that Clouzot was able to film from the reverse side, capturing their creation in real time. When the artist decided to paint in oils, the filmmaker switched to color film and employed the magic of stop-motion animation. By contract, almost all of these paintings were destroyed when the film was completed. Unavailable for more than a decade, "The Mystery of Picasso" is exhilarating, mesmerizing, and unforgettable; it is simply one of the greatest documentaries on art ever made. The French government agrees; in 1984 it declared the film a national treasure. |

Where To Get Reproduction Abstract Oil Paintings
Abstract paintings are technically a product of putting together different geometric shapes, colours and lines. Although it is similar to traditional or classic paintings in the impression that it draws its motivation from emotional, sensory and intellectual stimuli, it is distinctive because it does not make an attempt to represent tangible objects or scenery. Instead of copying something or someone and putting it on canvas, abstract paintings are an interpretation of the colors and textures that came from raw emotions and ideas, making them rather effective works of art. And this is why for several decades, abstract paintings have established a large following and have become one of the most celebrated branches of art. And of course, original abstract oil paintings done by the masters of the craft are either too costly for an average homeowner to buy, or are cared for by some of the world's biggest museums and galleries.
So how do you go about purchasing your quite own abstract oil painting? These days, you will find that there are several companies that offer reproduction abstract oil paintings to residence owners and art enthusiasts who can't specifically afford an original Rothko or Picasso. These reproductions are not exactly the actual thing but will it matter when you already have it up on your wall? And simply so you know, these reproductions are done by professional painters and seasoned artists that are employed by these reproduction companies; so while you may not precisely have an original painting done by Jackson Pollock in your living room, what you have is a quite good reproduction of the original masterpiece and only the best of the world's art pundits may tell the distinction. Indeed, some of these reproductions are rather good that some of them might even cost thousands of dollars.
These reproductions are the affordable alternative for art enthusiasts and residence owners to have a piece of a celebrated art work gracing their walls. Also, these reproductions are affordable, rather straightforward to find and are done in a span of six to eight weeks which are some of the factors behind its popularity. And placing an order is rather simple as well since there are diverse companies that now do business online. All you need to do is to choose a company to order from, choose among the abstract oil paintings you wish to order and provide details as to the size and any other specification and then provide a shipping address. Depending on the painting and the size you ordered, it can take the company anywhere from three to eight weeks to deliver the painting to you.

How to Start Acrylic Painting With Confidence
When decideing on how to start acrylic painting first you necessitate to determine if you want to attempt this medium or one of the others accessible. It is too early to know if it is the right medium foryou. Only time and practice of the paints will establish that.
Some rules of thumb for determining and questions to ask yourself are: Do you like oils? Do you like watercolors? If yes then acrylics can look and behave similar to both these mediums. Are you close to other people when you use paints? Oils smell. You can get things that smell less, only it is a problem that needs to be considered. Have you somewhere for your art to remain while drying? Oils can take forever to dry, acrylics do not. Do you prefer precise art or flexibility. Watercolor can be awkward to control, this can be its charm but also a pain in the rear! Do you want to paint on odd materials? Acrylics are more flexible as to what you can paint on.
Before you commit to spending out on equipment and paint research what you need. Borrow or buy books or DVDs on acrylic painting for beginners or something similar. If you can, get a variety from your local library. Discover more on what the paint does, the types of paint and brushes and painting canvases and pads necessary for your course.
See if you can get someone that already paints to give you a go with the paints. If not book a one day workshop in your area to give a better idea of what to expect. Check though that they provide the paints as not all workshops do.
After your research is finished obtain equipment and paints to begin. If you are not on a budget no problem, nonetheless if you are be careful of what you decide to purchase. Do not necessarily get the cheapest paints around as this can be false economy where painting is involved. Cheap paints do not look so good. Worse still they usually dry out quickly! Which with acrylics is very fast and can prevent you from painting anything. Even if you get a stay wet palette some paints just do not stay wet long enough to apply especially if you live somewhere hot.
Brushes are a very individual choice for an artist. Start with basic acrylic ones then branch out as you decide what styles types of pictures and techniques you favor.
Find a tutor or course
Getting a tutor or course may depend where you are living in the world and also where you are in the country. You may live near local adult education centers. These are a great way for some individuals to start learning their chosen discipline. If not you can always try online courses and learn this way. You may prefer it anyways as it will fit in with your already busy schedule.
The most important thing when learning how to start acrylic painting is to remember to have fun and to play with the paints. Love what you do and you will be painting in no time.
